This is a rental building at the intersection of Michigan and Randolph. The building is probably most recognizable for the domed entrance to La Strada – a restaurant which is no longer there. The owners of Millenium Park Plaza had started the process of getting approval to build a new tiny highrise adjacent to Millenium Park Plaza directly above the dome, and the restaurant either decided to shut down or they were not given the option to renew their lease. I talked with the owner of the convenience store on the other end of the building several months ago, and he said he was getting kicked out. (Note that their web site probably needs to be redesigned if they are not putting in a new grocery store. http://www.millenniumparkplaza.com/amenities/grocery.html) Also, there used to be a popular pub next to La Strada called “J Randolph’s” and was operated I believe by the same people who ran La Strada. So the building’s retail and restaurant space is all empty right now, pending the construction of the new high rise, which in this credit market may take a while to get started. If you have any other news to share about any of the above or about the building, please post as a comment on this thread. Also, if you are looking at rentals in this neighborhood, I’d be happy to schedule a day to show you this building and several others downtown and help you compare your options.

Two showings for rent, two bedrooms at the parkshore and the Harbor Point
July 30th, 2009 · Uncategorized
I showed two rental units today, the two bedrooms unit at the 195 Harbor, unit 1509, the second bedroom has a french door open to the living room. This unit is facing north east, has great view to the Navy Pier and the lake, very nice kitchen with granite counter. The rent price is $2,200 per month with valet parking included. The other two bedrooms we saw is the two split bedrooms at the Harbor Point, which has around 1,208 square feet, this unit is in original situation, with carpet through out. The view is great to the lake and south shore line. I would prefer the the first one as it is modern and has new kitchen. But they are both very reasonable priced!

We have seen segway being around for a while, they started at 400 E Randolph a couple of years ago. When one of our relatives who live in the building tried it, she mentioned it was crazy and she almost fall. I have not got the courage to try it yet, but it is always cool to see them coming down from the ramp at the new lake shore east park.

Showing at the 340 Randolph unit 3406
July 28th, 2009 · Uncategorized
I was showing this unit last week. This is a great three bedrooms unit at the 340 on the park. With south west and north exposure. This unit has around 2,200 square feet. My client likes the living room, it is spacious and has great view to the city and the lake. There is a large balcony facing south too! However, the two bedrooms are facing the blue shield and blue cross building, and the master bedroom is facing north, the new lake shore east park, however, there is a chance of being blockd by a new building. There are great closet spaces and nice floor and kitchen. But there is not enough cabinets in the kitchen, with the listing price of $1,599,999.

Woman wanted to jump, but got saved – 340 e randolph
June 13th, 2009 · Uncategorized
The updated info is that around 2:00am, police has helped this woman to safety. There are no details of the reason why she was doing it, but I am very happy to see that she comes out OK with no injury. But she did stay at that place for around 12 hours, during this period, the police has provided some hot dog and coffee for her. Right now the three floors are still locked, including the common room which suppose open to everyone in the building.
Woman wants to jump from 340 on the Park at 340 E randolph
June 11th, 2009 · Uncategorized
I was on my way to pick up my kids this afternoon and noticed there are lots of police cars in front of the 340 E Randolph, then I heard that there is someone wants to jump from the building, I saw people are pointing at some high floor, since I know the building pretty well, I saw there is someone on the 25th floor, which is the common area of the building, looks like she is hanging on outside of the balcony. There are lots of people underneath of the building, I saw lots of fire trucks and police cars but no nets, or maybe they thought it would not work for people jump from that high floor. We all know that this is a very nice building, the people live there must have good and stable income. So I am not sure what is the reason for this to happen. We should all love life and enjoy our life, although we might be depressed or sad sometimes, but life could go on no matter what. So let’s hope that she could finally not jump and no one would like to do this any more.
